150 saplings planted at Jinnah Super Market

Islamabad: The Shifa Foundation in collaboration with the Traders Welfare Association of Jinnah Super Market, F-7, on Tuesday organised a tree plantation activity in the market with an aim towards a greener and climate resilient Islamabad.

More than 30 volunteers, which included students from Bahria University Islamabad, employees of Eco Adventure Foundation and volunteers of Shifa Foundation, took part in the environment-friendly activity.

Together, the volunteers planted more than 150 saplings near the shops and parking areas in the market. “The Shifa Foundation aims to plant 1000 trees this spring season to decrease the effect of deforestation on climate change in Islamabad. More than 500 trees have already been planted by engaging students from universities. We are planning to extend our climate-friendly activities throughout the country in near future,” said Farhan Ayub, a volunteer of the Shifa Foundation.

He said the purpose of engaging students in tree plantation is to inculcate the respect for nature and the importance of greenery in our young generation. He said the Shifa Foundation was busy in community development interventions, particularly related to healthcare, nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene, climate change, disaster risk reduction, livelihood and women and child rights.
