Dangerous crossings

Although residents have complained about unmanned railway crossings across Rawalpindi, the authorities concerned have not taken immediate action to resolve the issue. Railway crossing at Jhelum Road is the most dangerous track. Motorcyclists who use the crossing on a daily basis frequently meet with minor or major accidents. Although the authorities suggested to build an underpass to provide an alternative route to motorcyclists, they failed to implement the decision in a timely manner.

Another factor behind the large number of accidents is that motorcyclists have no guidance from traffic police who can teach these people how to cross the rail track. According to internationally-recognised standards, the railway tracks should be crossed at 90 degrees to the way they run. Can’t we deploy some traffic personnel at the crossing to prevent people from getting injured? It is time the government took relevant measures to tackle the issue.
