Shaftqat calls for removal of Shahbaz, Sana’s arrest

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Secretary Information Shafqat Mehmood on Wednesday said the Justice Baqar Najfi report had exposed the elements behind the Model Town carnage. Addressing a press conference, Shafqat, also a PTI MNA from Lahore, said that the report had made it clear that the purpose behind the police operation at Model Town was to block the way of Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers through violence. He said that all fingers were now being pointed at the Punjab chief minister after the release of Justice Baqar Najfi report. Shahbaz Sharif should immediately step down, he added. Shafqat Mehmood also demanded arrest of Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah Khan over his alleged involvement in the Model Town killings.
He said the reports of all the agencies concerned were included in the Najfi report and it showed that no firing was done from the residence of Dr Tahir ul Qadri. Shafqat Mehmood said that shots were fired by police while aiming at the protestors following the consent of the authorities.
The PTI central leader said that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif recorded a false statement. He said Law Minister Rana Sana Ullah directed launch of the operation against PAT activists on the instructions of the CM.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference, Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed demanded removal of all the accused in the Baqar Najfi report and called for formation of a join investigation team (JIT) for fresh probe into the incident. He hailed the verdict by LHC over the release of the report concerning the Model Town incident of June 2014.
Besides, Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed though a resolution submitted in the PA Secretariat also demanded the CM step down fulfilling his commitment and stated PTI wouldn’t let the assembly proceedings continue until the Punjab government released the probe report itself.
