KP Assembly adjourned due to lack of quorum

PESHAWAR: Due to lack of interest on the part of lawmakers, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly was adjourned soon after recitation from the Holy Quran on Wednesday.
Only two provincial ministers and a few members of the treasury benches were present in the House when a member pointed out the lack of quorum. Deputy Speaker Dr Mehar Taj Roghani, who was chairing the session, asked for ringing the bell and waited for more than 10 minutes but the government failed to bring the required numbers into the assembly to complete the quorum.
The session lasted hardly for two minutes and the Deputy Speaker had no option but to adjourn the proceedings till Friday.
Provincial Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi, who belongs to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Inayatullah from the Jamaat-i-Islami, were present in the House at the time. Only the women MPAs from PTI managed to reach their seats to attend the session when the bell was being rung to alert the lawmakers.
On the other hand, lawmakers from the opposition parties including the Pakistan People’s Party and Awami National Party were present and ready to participate in the assembly proceedings.
“I have to raise some important questions and make debate over issues related to the Health Department, but the session was adjourned for lack of quorum,” said Fakhre Alam Khan, the PPP lawmaker from Bannu.
He criticised the government MPAs, particularly provincial ministers and parliamentary secretaries, for not taking interest in the assembly proceedings and said that the cabinet members were responsible for answering the issues raised on the assembly floor.
