PTI terms verdict victory of victims’ families

PTI terms verdict victory of victims’ families

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has demanded immediate arrest and resignation of Punjab Chief Minister and Law Minister Rana Sanaullah after the release of Justice Baqar Najfi report on Model Town incident.
Hailing the Lahore High Court’s verdict on Tuesday for releasing Justice Baqar Najfi’s report on Model Town incident took place in June 2014, in which over a dozen people lost their lives as a result of a clash with police, opposition leader Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed said that it was day of victory for the families who lost their relatives in that incident.
He said all the political parties should now jointly move ahead to ensure proper availability of justice to the Model Town incident victims and said the PTI would now launch impeachment movement to remove the chief minister.
PTI leader Senator Dr Babar Awan while talking to the media during his visit to Aiwan-e-Adal said under Article 19 A of the Constitution, it is the basic right of the relatives of the Model Town victims to get report of that tragedy.
Awan said the chief minister had lost moral authority to remain in office. He alleged that the Punjab government was involved in Model Town massacre and the decision regarding the Model Tragedy should also be announced at the earliest so that justice should be done to the aggrieved.
Ejaz Ch, former Punjab PTI president, while talking to the media on the occasion said the court had announced a historic verdict. Demanding immediate arrest of the chief minister and Rana Sanaullah, Ejaz Chaudhry said the trial of Model Town case should be conducted on daily basis, adding the elements behind the incident couldn’t escape accountability now.
He said the PTI was siding with the aggrieved families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy and would continue struggle for justice for them. Sumsam Ali Bokhari, Secretary Information of PTI in a statement issued here on Tuesday, hoped innocent people would get justice.
PPP: Former chairman Senate and Secretary General Pakistan Peoples Party Syed Nayyar Hussein Bokhari while talking to The News hailed the court’s s verdict. He said there was nothing such as ‘State Secret’ in the report and it was related to the acts of individuals, so, its release was purely under the law and families of the Model Town victims had a right to access it. However, he said, he wasn’t in a position to comment on the findings of the report as he couldn’t go through it. “I will only comment on it unless I read it thoroughly”, he said.
