Inter-Provincial Games to have contests in 19 disciplines

KARACHI: As many as 3700 athletes and officials would take part in 19 disciplines in the second edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Youth Games to be staged at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad, from December 25 to 29.
Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Tuesday held a meeting with the stakeholders at its headquarters in Islamabad. The PSB Director General Dr Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera chaired the meeting.“More than 3700 players, team officials and technical officials will participate in the mega event,” Ganjera said, who is the chairman of the organising committee.
He said Rs130 million had been allocated for the Games.The 19 disciplines are: athletics (men, women), badminton (men, women), baseball (men, women), football (men, women), hockey (men, women), judo (men, women), karate (men, women), netball (men, women), squash (men, women), table tennis (men, women), taekwondo (men, women), tennis (men, women), volleyball (men, women), boxing (men), kabaddi (circle, men), snooker (men), weightlifting (men), wrestling (men) and Wushu (men, women).
The strength of players, officials and technical officials for each discipline was discussed in the meeting. All the participants were requested to provide the particulars of the participants on the prescribed pro forma through email.
The sports boards were asked to submit the strength of their contingent with the disciplines by December 15. The matter regarding mode of payment to the team officials and players was also discussed. The representatives of Gilgit- Baltistan said that keeping in view the distance they should be permitted two days daily allowance before and after the games as in the case of Sindh and Balochistan teams, the PSB said.
The chairman agreed with their proposals.It was decided that the PSB would provide facilities, TA/DA, track-suits, joggers and playing-kits. All the participating units were advised to nominate their focal persons for liaison with the organising committee.
The representatives of all provincial sports boards, Gilgit-Baltistan, FATA, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) attended the meeting. The house was informed that President and Prime Minister were proposed to be invited as the chief guests at the opening and closing ceremonies, respectively. It was decided that the positions would be determined on the basis of medals instead of points.
The medal winners will be awarded cash prizes.The PSB will make arrangements for food stalls inside the venues. A meeting of the steering committee will be convened shortly under the chairmanship of the federal minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) Riaz Pirzada for taking policy decisions to successfully organise the Games.
