Motive unclear as teenage girl murdered in Saudabad

Motive unclear as teenage girl murdered in Saudabad

Police officials remained unsure of the motive after a teenage girl was killed by unidentified assailants at her house in Saudabad on Tuesday.

Saudabad police SHO Shahrukh Khan said 16-year-old Aleena’s throat was slit, while her elder sister, Alveena, sustained stab wounds when the two tried to resist a robbery at their house in Saudabad’s C Area.

Khan said Alveena had told police that two men had barged into their house for a robbery. “She says that Aleena attacked one of the robbers with a knife and injured him. However, the robber still managed to snatch the knife from her and slit her throat,” said the SHO.

Khan said the robbers fled without taking anything from the house. He said the girls’ father, Nadeem, sold papad for a living, whereas his wife worked at a garments factory. The girls also had two younger brothers who were at school when the men entered the house.

The girl despite being shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in an injured condition succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

However, after confirming the victim’s identity to The News, Duty Officer ASI Safdar Khan said the relatives of the victim said the robbers only attacked her, while her elder sister was not harmed at all.

He said the body was handed over to the family on completion of medico-legal formalities, adding that the family had told the police that they would register a case after performing Aleena’s burial.

On the other hand, Korangi District Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nauman Siddiqui categorically rejected the theory that the girl was killed on offering resistance.

He said the family had recently rented the Saudabad house and that they had shifted to the area from Shadman Town from where they were asked to vacate the house over non-payment of utility dues.

The SSP added that could be several reasons behind the girl’s murder and that the police would issue a statement on completion of the investigation.
