FeedbackDear Ed,I really appreciate the clean look of the cover story “MVXII Sigh” . If I talk about the content, I would say it was terrific. The write up wasn’t just a list of events that happened in 2017; it was intellectual and provocative, too!Amjad, LahoreHello Editor,Kudos for printing “Lights, cameras and lots of films”. As a photographer, I have always been passionate about making films. Though I have never tried making a proper short film, I occasionally upload random videos on my social media. The problem that most of the filmmakers faced was lack of equipment. I truly agree that without using high quality equipment you...

OPINION After a number of tray sessions happening since I was 23, I finally settled down with the ‘prince charming’ every girl dreams of. The rishta process was a bit intimidating, but one day my life took a surprising turn. Bam, I was nikkah-fied! I was happy because I thought that the famous ‘adjustment struggles’ won’t come my way, as I would have some time to get to know the guy till my rukhsati. But, who knew about the challenges we would face during this time? I think every girl who is engaged or in nikkah of someone must know what I am talking about. So, here are the problems, myriad changes and dilemmas girls face...

COUCH POTATOES A show in its earlier years of success and popularity chooses to be less experimental. It takes a shift after winning the confidence of its existing audience. This is exactly what How to Get Away with Murder did. Although the first three seasons of the show were equally good, there is not much to say about them because the initial seasons were more focused on the life of Annalise Keating and her team of five aspiring lawyers. In each episode, characters were given a situation and the plot of the episode would revolve around how characters reacted under the given circumstances. Their actions were limited to their own...

COVER STORY I was on my way to the passport office. I had recently got admission in an acclaimed university in the US on full scholarship. I was going to leave in two months. Since the day I got the news, I was on cloud nine, and my parents? To say they were ecstatic would be an understatement. If I was on a cloud, their feelings were out of this world. One week back, my father had called me to his study. We sat in silence for two minutes because he said he was trying to find the most wholesome words to tell me what an exceptional son I was. He told me he was proud, so very proud. His eyes were twinkling. It was beyond fathomable for...

STORYHer dark robes billowed around her, encircling her slender torso. Lithe and graceful, Tsunade stood on the cliff; a lone figure watching the ruthless waves splash against the precipice. Tears slid silently down her face, sparkling in the moonlight. Her glazed eyes stared into the distance, camouflaging her anguish. Oblivious to her surroundings, she recalled the previous night’s events with ghastly vividness. Tsunade’s sister’s expression was engraved within the realms of her memory. It still gnawed at her.The manic gleam dancing in Makuto’s eyes coupled with her deranged laughter had made her an ideal specimen of insanity....

I want to play my cards nowHello Guru,I am a 21-year-old boy from a well-off but conservative family. My problem is quite complicated. Guru, I am a victim of centuries old brutal customs. In our family, early marriages are a norm. My father got me married to my younger cousin when I was in class 10th. It was a forced marriage. I did not want to marry at such a young age, but had to because of family pressure. I have been married for five years now. I have two children, but am not happy with my life. My wife is an illiterate, simple woman. I don’t hate her, but I don’t love her either as she does not match my mental level.I am in...

An important lessonOne day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. The donkey began to realise what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each...
