The contemporary qawwali group, Hamza Akram Qawwal and Brothers, who composed music for Bilal Ashraf and Urwa Hocane-starrer Rangreza and have several international performances to their credit, are geared up to perform at the Greenbelt Festival 2019 in the United Kingdom.
Dubbed as one of the largest art festivals in the country, the Greenbelt Festival is scheduled to take place from August 23 to August 26, 2019.
According to the press statement, Hamza Akram Qawwal and his brothers Taimoor Akram and Abdul Akram will be performing on August 25 in Northamptonshire, with more than 20,000 members from different communities and religions in attendance.
Moreover, a workshop will be organized on August 26, where the brothers will share valuable information regarding mystical Sufi music and qawwali as an integral part of Pakistani tradition.
“We feel highly honored to be representing our beloved country at the Greenbelt Festival in front of thousands of people, most of whom come from the Western part of the world and belong to different religions,” stated Hamza Akram in the press statement.
“Pakistan carries a lot of interpretations of different genres of music, but qawwali is the core of our country’s tradition and we would love to impart our knowledge of Sufism to the rest of the world,” he stated, adding that this event is a great way to spread the message of love and harmony among all beliefs and ethnicities.
The Greenbelt Festival, which aims at creating spaces where art, faith and justice can be freely expressed, attracts mainstream musicians including U2, Ed Sheeran, Daniel Bedingfield, Steve Taylor, and many more.
