With the cold season hitting Pakistan, here’s how you can update your winter wardrobe.
Winter is here. With it comes a worldwide high fashion season but in Pakistan we find festive season in full swing. The fashion week preceding the colder months is also titled Winter Festive instead of Fall/Winter because party wear is where it’s at – the time to bring out your best bling. However, that said, everyday wardrobes do change and so do the ways one can style perennial favorites. We know fashion has no rules but spend your winter playing around with these five and thank us later.
Belt your coats
As the season goes on its pretty inevitable that you’re going to start to feel some fashion fatigue every time you pick up your winter coat. Breathe new life into your coat look by simply belting it around your waist. The best part about this styling trick is that it will work with just about any coat style even puffer coats. For belts your best bet would be to hit Mango, Next, Splash and/or Accessorize.
If we had to pick one winter accessory, scarves would be our favourite because there’s so much that can be done with them! One can also try cinching them with a belt rather than letting them hang loose and free. It’s an easy, effortless way to looking chic and polished. Beyond switching up the textures and styles, you can also consider wrapping them around your head like a turban. Try scarves from any of the high street stores around or our desi shawls to get the look.
Layer like a pro
A cardinal rule for winter is not to be afraid to pile on the layers. A turtleneck under a sweater, under a blazer, under a coat, for instance, will definitely keep you warm and so will a dress or skirt over a pair of pants. For some major styling points one can also pair on-trend athleisure tracks with leather jackets or puffer coats. Mixing different fabrics and textures also adds a touch of personalization to the outfit with corduroy, velvet and silk combined. We found some great winter coats at Zuria Dor, Mango, Outfitters, Breakout and Plush by Pashmina.
Fur instantly upgrades an outfit - throw on a fur vest or stole over your winter coat, a statement fur topper or accessories like mittens or ear muffs. This season, faux fur in bright colours as well as leopard prints is really big and fashionistas are using them to add colour to subdued outfits.
Boots that are made for walking
Season after season, boots remain a solid staple in our winter wardrobes. Opt for over-the-knee-boots with a short jacket or pair your favourite ankle beets with cuffed jeans. We’ve never met a boot we hated – velvet, leather, suede, printed, plain, ankle length, over the knee, knee length, heeled, flat... they’re a must for winter!
