World Diabetes Day marked at NICH

The National Institute of Child Health (NICH) celebrated the World Diabetes Day here on Thursday.

Cricket legend Wasim Akram, his wife Shaniera and other members of The Wasim Akram Foundation were also present on the occasion.

He went round the hospital and also spoke about his fight with Diabetes which he was diagnosed with at the age of 29. He told the parents not to lose hope and said that the parents and the doctors of the hospital were the real heroes and not him.

Student volunteers from Karachi Grammar School and BeaconHouse School had set up stalls with games for children suffering from Type 1 Diabetes. There were prizes donated by the students for the children.

The Akram Foundation has partnered with the NICH to help increase awareness of the work that it is doing. The NICH provides Free of Cost treatment to nearly one million children annually who hail from as far away as Baluchistan and lower Punjab.
